Mario Kart 8’s Splatoon Inklings Must Be Protected At All Costs

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a great time. Cruising around tracks and shooting Koopa shells all over the place will never get old. But someone’s enjoying it way more than anyone else: the Inklings from Splatoon. They are precious children and happy to be here. Be nice to them.

The Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl are new additions to the roster for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the updated Switch version of Mario Kart 8. As the series has progressed, more characters from other franchises have been added. The most prominent is Link from The Legend of Zelda. It’s a good decision that broadens the game’s scope and the Inkling Kids are a wonderful addition because of just how much damn fun they are having.

Look at this sweet summer child. The bright grin and clear pride at winning at race is just way too much to handle. In a day and age where I consider it a victory if I muster the strength to head out and grab some Pringles at the bodega, this display of enthusiasm is absolutely contagious.

Just look at how much this squid kid enjoys knocking the crap out of another racer:

Here we see Inkling Girl in her natural habitat, completely clowning on Inkling Boy. Dude should have known a red shell was coming. Inkling Girl isn’t just going to taunt him, she’s going to grin her butt off as she does it. Thankfully, she doesn’t flip him the full bird. That is not the Inkling way.

I’ve seen plenty of Inkling Kids online and I can’t say I’m surprised. They’re a perfect fit for Mario Kart’s bright world and silly item takedowns. Luigi’s staredown is legendary at this point but I’m holding out hope that the Inkling’s toothy grins are just as popular. How can you look at this without smiling?

Way to go, Squid Kids. You make victory just that much more awesome.
