Man Utd stars ready to confront Jose Mourinho over Luke Shaw criticism

Shaw made his first Manchester United start since February 2 in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton.

But his return lasted just 45 minutes as he was hauled off by Mourinho and replaced by Ashley Young.

After the match, Mourinho launched a scathing attack on the left-back saying he was substituted because he was not capable of “good positioning” and added: “Luke, in the first half, every time they came in his corridor, the cross came in and a dangerous situation was coming.

“I was not happy with his performance.”

Mourinho’s criticism of Shaw comes just two months after he claimed Shaw was one of the best players in his position in the Premier League.

And it appears Shaw’s team-mates have had enough of Mourinho’s public humiliation.

The Telegraph report that some United players don’t agree with Mourinho assessment of Shaw and was “shocked and angered” by the Portuguese manager’s comments.

It is claimed staff at the club believe Mourinho has “overstepped the mark”.

A source is quoted as saying: “It’s like the default setting is to criticise Shaw.”

Speaking on Saturday as he analysed Shaw’s situation, former United midfielder Paul Scholes said the defender is likely to leave in the summer.

He said: “I think sometimes, managers get in their head that there’s a player not for them.

“It is disappointing because when Luke Shaw came you thought what a player that is and he could be the best.

“It’s a relationship that come the summer will end. It keeps going on and on but he isn’t playing games.”
