Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho and Gary Neville react to Romelu Lukaku’s goal drought

The Portuguese boss faced questions about his top forward after the Belgian failed to hit the net in 10 of his last 11 outings.

After moving to Old Trafford for £75million from Everton in the summer, Lukaku got his Red Devils career off to a blistering start scoring 11 goals in 10 games.

Since the goals have dried up his confidence appears to have taken a beating.

But manager Mourinho hads backed his forward to find the net again soon, but he insists that he is not worried even if it does not come against Arsenal this afternoon (5.30pm).

“No, he’s going to score soon,” Mourinho said.

“No problem. If it’s Saturday, if it’s Tuesday, it’s it next week, I don’t know. But he’s going to score soon and no problem at all.”

Meanwhile, former defender and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes that the pressure is on Lukaku to turn his form around quickly.

“He was brought in to score goals in the games which United were drawing last season but it is in the big games where United need him most,” Neville told Sky Sports News.

“If there is a way to get at Arsenal and Manchester City then it is by really going at their defences.

“For a striker, it is all about your goals and unfortunately, people will always measure him by that, but away from the goals his contribution has to be big, to mess their centre-halves about.

“He’s had his struggles but ultimately that was always going to happen at some point after his blistering start, but this is a critical stage of the season where he has to deliver.”
