Luke Fletcher HORROR injury: The sickening moment Notts bowler is hit on head by ball

Whilst bowling, Fletcher was struck on the head from a fierce straight drive from Birmingham batsman Sam Hain.

The seamer immediately fell to the ground holding his head and the players and umpires called for medical assistance.

Remarkably Fletcher seemed to regain consciousness and was able to walk off with help from two people before being taken to hospital.

Both sets of players were visibly shocked with what they had seen and play was halted for a lengthy period of time.

The incident happened off Fletcher’s first delivery of the evening, with Birmingham 30-0 after 3.1 overs.

They had got off to a flying start after Nottinghamshire had posted 165-6 from their 20 overs.

The players originally stayed in the middle but the umpires, coaches and players decided to leave the field of play.

Play was meant to restart at 9.10pm but discussions were still taking place at that time between the officials in the pavilion.

England cricket legend Andrew Flintoff is commentating for Sky Sports on the game and was understandably worried.

“I’m sure Luke Fletcher will be getting all the support he needs,” he said.

“It’s all about him now – not the cricket. I’m hoping the fact they’re restarting at 9.10pm is good news for Luke, that he’s okay.”

Play re-commenced at 21.18 and no overs were lost.

Fletcher, 28, has spent the entirety of his career at Notts apart from brief loan spells at Surrey (2015) and Derbyshire (2016).
