London Bridge travel updates: Station set to reopen but commuters advised to AVOID area

London Bridge rail station reopened on Monday at 5am but as exit only, while the Underground station will be open, Transport for London (TFL) confirmed.

But TfL has advised travellers to avoid using the station if possible to avoid overcrowding, although commuters will be able to travel in and around the area.

A TfL statement said: “The station will be much busier than usual and there may be queuing systems in place. Passengers are advised to avoid London Bridge station during Monday’s morning peak if at all possible.”

The Metropolitan Police said cordons have been put in place that could remain “well into Monday” while officers continue with their investigations.

Met assistant commissioner Mark Rowley asked the public to “avoid the area as our investigation is ongoing”.

He added: “This will have an impact on travel arrangements as we head in to Monday morning, and would ask everyone to check with their travel operators and seek alternative routes wherever possible.”

British Transport Police said people may notice an increased police presence following the attacks, which killed seven and left dozens more injured.

In a statement, the force said: “Members of the public should expect to see extra police officers patrolling stations in London and the south east following the attacks. You may also see some of our armed police officers at stations.”

An area of Borough High Street and Market is closed, as well as Montague Close and Stoney Street.

Barriers have been installed overnight on some of London’s bridges in response to the terror attack.

Pedestrians who usually walk across London Bridge are advised to use London Underground services or National Rail services to Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Cannon Street, Blackfriars and Victoria stations.
