Liverpool and Lyon had agreed a £53m deal for the 25-year-old prior to the World Cup but it wasn’t until the Frenchman underwent a medical that problems started to occur.
The Reds are understood to have had concerns over a long-standing knee injury and reluctantly decided to pull out of a deal.
Liverpool’s interest is said to have cooled on the midfielder, and while Klopp says a transfer before next month’s August 9 deadline looks unlikely, he acknowledges anything is still possible.
When asked what happened with Fekir, Klopp answered: “Nothing really to say about that.

“I said already something about it around a pre-season game, I don’t know exactly which one.
“It’s probably… done. But there’s two weeks left.
“If nothing happens with our boys, then I’m happy. It’s fine. So we can go.
“But if something happens, I think you always have to make sure that you can react. If not now, the next year, whatever.”
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the transfer window before deadline day but mostly with outgoings – Danny Ings and Simon Mignolet could be the biggest names to be offloaded.
The transfer window is shutting three weeks earlier than normal this year but Klopp isn’t panicking over the situation.
“I think the idea in general was good,” said Klopp, when asked about the transfer window shutting early.
“Then we did it, and nobody else pretty much in the world did. And we did it in a World Cup year, which means you get the boys arriving back three days before season starts. That’s not perfect.
“We did our business pretty early, at least parts of it. It’s strange, in other countries, clubs are waiting but abroad no one can wait.”
