Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp hits back at Joey Barton for Premier League criticism

Liverpool currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, two points behind Tottenham but 14 adrift of Manchester City at the summit.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Saturday night, squandering the chance to close the gap after Mohamed Salah gifted them the lead.

Barton was among their critics after that showdown, saying: “Liverpool are getting closer to the other sides than they are to winning the league.

“They are actually regressing under Jurgen Klopp. They are not getting any closer to wining the league.

“Manchester City are now 14 points ahead of them having played the same amount of games.

“They are closer to West Ham, who are in the relegation zone, than they are to the top of the table.”

But Klopp has now hit back ahead of Liverpool’s showdown against Stoke tomorrow (8pm).

“Yes, we’ve made progress 100%. We’ve been more patient in specific games. We feel in a really good way,” the German said.

“We feel on a good way. Chelsea are an unbelievably difficult team to play, we played them in a completely different manner.

“We dominated them. That’s fantastic, but we didn’t win. But I still feel we are in a good way.

“This is now a really decisive period of the season. We need to be spot on.”

Klopp also cannot see City being reeled in at the top of the table.

“I saw the game against Huddersfield, It was deserved that City won.

“As long as City keep winning then no-one else has a chance.

“I don’t care about this at the moment.”
