Line Of Duty season 5 spoilers: Ted Hastings exposed and arrested as new evidence emerges?

Line Of Duty is about to return with a brand new series, jam packed full of drama. But in the meantime, speculation is still rife over who is H?

It comes after the previous series left viewers with several unanswered questions, and while they hope the new instalment will provide the answers, the teaser clips BBC One has dropped potentially give some clues as to what’s in store next month.

The hot favourite police drama will be back on television screens next month and in the meantime there are suspicions over Superintendent Ted Hastings (played by Adrian Dunbar) involvement in the new case.

He has always been a force to be reckoned with, putting the law and duty of a police officer above relationships and corruption.

But could the tables have turned in series five? It comes as a few clues have been dropped to suggest SI Hastings will in fact be the one who is investigated.

The first look of season five was dropped back in December and the 55 second clip saw Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) highlight the basic details of the new case.

He said: “Sir, the robbery’s been planned with the collision of a corrupt senior police officer,” to which Ted replied: “Any details on this officer?”

“I’ve not been provided with an ID, sir,” Steve explained. Adding to the conversation, Detective Sergeant Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) commented: “Sir, this is a chance to crack the highest level link between corrupt officers and organised crime. Possibly even the top man.”

Seemingly rumbled by the news, Ted skirted the news and instead said: ”You’re my best team. If this is how you want to call it… I will back you to the hilt.”

As the DS then left the room, Ted looking extremely worried as he tried to process the information.

The next clip, which was released two months later in February, saw another 15 second sneak peak whereby Ted confirmed his position within the investigation.

“AC-12 is being met with an institutional cover up. We’ll get to the root of this,” he was heard saying and then Kate added: “The root being what sir?”

Kate is a smart detective and her questioning his statement suggests he knows something more about what is going on that he is letting his team know.

Following this, the most recent video which was published to Line Of Duty’s official Twitter account last week showed the first look at balaclava man and dropped even more hints.

“Let’s go, let’s go, come on,” the balaclava gang leader said as images of several armed men surrounded a fleet of police cars. “Nice work lads,” he added.

Ted was then seen addressing the case: “What’ve we got,” to which Kate replied: “Hijack of a transport by armed men wearing balaclavas.”

And Steve followed with some grave news: “Three police officers murdered in cold blood,” with Kate adding: “The hijack required a police insider.”

Again Ted confirmed his team’s dedication to the case, but not his own: “My team will get to the root of anything,” with Kate questioning his meaning for a second time: “The root being what sir?”

“For too long the extent of police corruption has been covered up,” a senior police officer states.

In the next scene Steve comments: “Someone’s still pulling the strings,” whilst an anxious Ted is seen pacing around his office.

AC-12 is being met with an institutional cover up.

Another officer then discusses the biggest grey area of the whole case: “There’s a codename, didn’t think it was real, H?” This is the first time Steve and Kate will have been privy to this information.

To add to the perplexity of the situation, Ted then makes an odd remark: “You work with someone, you take them at their word,” until Steve interjects: “Until now.”

Could this be suggesting Steve and Kate are now suspecting their Superintendent to know more about the situation than he is letting on?

The team of detectives are already on high alert considering every police officer a suspect until there is sufficient evidence to rule them out.

Therefore, there is a high possibility some of the leads will draw them to conclusions that Ted is involved. Will he be pulled in for questioning by his own team and forced to take a step down from the case?

Whilst there have been suggestions he could be H, will his team be able to find and hunt down the relevant information to bring him to his knees should he be behind the highest level of police corruption and organised crime within the force?
