Crows captain Tex Walker has publicly opposed a proposal to build a luxury hotel at Adelaide Oval.
Walker took to social media last night to voice his opposition to the development.
“Please don’t change our beautiful stadium,” Walker wrote on Twitter in response to an opinion column in The Advertiser by AFL legend Graham Cornes.
The proposed 128-room boutique hotel has been proposed as a joint project between the Stadium Management Authority, which would build and manage the hotel, and the State Government, which would provide a loan of up to $ 42 million to get it off the ground.
Adelaide Council unanimously opposed the project at a meeting on Wednesday.
One councillor likened the construction, which is proposed for the Oval’s eastern side, as the equivalent of putting “billboards on the Sydney Opera House”.
The Adelaide Venue Management Corporation has commissioned a business study of the proposal and a parliamentary select committee has been established to inquire into the plan.
