Kellie Maloney: Could former promoter return to boxing? Big career decision hints at move

The former promoter, who helped Lennox Lewis become world heavyweight champion, has quit her job as landlady of a pub in Kent.

Kellie, known as Frank before a sex change, was one of the most high-profile promoters in the sport alongside the likes of Don King and Frank Warren in an era of big-name heavyweights.

She says it’s a business decision to leave the Unicorn pub in Marden but with time on her hands, maybe we’ll see her back in boxing.

“It hasn’t worked out, it’s a business decision and a practical one,” Maloney told Kent Online.

“I told the brewery in November and they asked me to reconsider.

“I met with them on Tuesday and told them I wasn’t staying.

“It’s up to the brewers to get someone else.

“That person will be moving into a ready-made pub with nice customers.”

Maloney quit boxing four years ago after revealing she was living as a woman.

Lewis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, spoke out in support of his former promoter.

“I think that all people should be allowed to live their lives in a way that brings them harmony and inner peace,” he wrote on Facebook.

“I respect Kellie’s decision and say that if this is what brings about true happiness in her life, then so be it.”
