Kate Middleton’s baby bump, which is bigger than her previous two pregnancies, has prompted rumours she might be having twins.
An expert from The Women’s Health Clinic in London has since confirmed public speculation that Kate’s bump is larger than when she had her previous two babies. So what does this mean?

It is believed a baby bump may be bigger if a woman is carrying twins. “You may have a bigger bump if you’re carrying twins or more,” according to information on the BabyCentre UK website.
Asked about the possibility of his wife giving birth to twins, Prince William on February 9: “ “Twins? I think my mental health would be tested with twins.”
The Prince continued: ”Two is fine, I don’t know how I’m going to cope with three, I’m going to be permanently tired.”
However, Aly Dilks, who works as Clinical Director at the Women’s Health Clinic, said there is another possible explanation for this.
“Essentially, each pregnancy will have its own differences and similarities but we do expect ladies to have bigger babies the more children they have,” the expert told the Daily Mail.
“During your first pregnancy the body uses hormones to make changes to accommodate the baby.”
However, due to a woman’s ribcage having widened already during her first pregnancy, it is believed subsequent pregnancies produce a bigger baby.

Others have speculated Kate’s baby bump reveals if she’s having a boy or a girl, with some saying bump shape has implications for the gender of a baby.

The Mail Online commented that Kate is expecting a girl, thanks to a similarity in the shapes of her baby bump compared to her last pregnancy.
The site claims Kate’s bump is “high and wide” like it was when she was pregnant with Charlotte, but claims her bump was lower with when carrying George.
But can a baby bump really tell what gender the baby will be? According to experts, a bump cannot reveal anything about the gender of the baby.

Period.” told The Bump: “Like any successful old wives’ tale about pregnancy, determining the baby’s gender based on how the mom is carrying probably came from a great-great-grandmother and was passed down the family tree.
Meanwhile, betting odds are heavily in favour of Kate having a girl – with girls’ names such as Mary (4/1) and Alice (6/1) holding the strongest odds compared to the most popular boys’ names, Arthur (14/1) and Albert (also 14/1).
