Jones, Nichols open mixed doubles Olympic curling trials with convincing win

Jennifer Jones and Mark Nichols opened their Canadian mixed doubles curling trials with a convincing 9-3 win over Shannon Birchard and Jason Gunnlaugson.

Jones, the defending women’s Olympic champion, is competing at the trials in Portage la Prairie, Man., after losing to Rachel Homan in the semifinals at the Canadian Olympic qualifiers in December. Homan and Kevin Koe secured their qualification for the upcoming Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea at those trials.
