Ivanka Trump criticised for sharing photo hours after Donald’s Charlottesville conference

Ivanka, 35, shared an image of herself posing and smiling for the camera with Betsy DeVos, 59, the US Secretary of Education and Alexander Acosta, 48, the US Secretary of Labor.

Celebrating the creation of jobs in the tech industry, Ivanka captioned the post: “500,000+ technology jobs are currently unfilled due to a growing skills gap in our country.

“STEM and Computer Science education are key to ensuring Americans are prepared for the jobs in demand in our modern economy.

“Grateful to be able to work closely with Secretary DeVos and Secretary Acosta to ensure access to high quality STEM education for all students across the United States. #STEM”.

But despite receiving over 69,000 likes for the post, Ivanka’s 3.8million followers heaped scorn on her in the comments for not making any reference to her father’s response to Charlottesville.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Donald referred to the anti-Nazi protestors as the “alt-left”, and said: “What about the fact they came charging — that they came charging, with clubs in their hands, swinging clubs? Do they have any problem? I think they do.

“I do think there’s blame on both sides. You look at both sides. I think there’s blame on both sides and I have no doubt about it.” Critics pounced on his words and accused the President of sympathising with alt-right, white supremacists who may have voted for him.

Ivanka did tweet an initial response to the situation in Charlottesville on Saturday, condemning “racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis”, but she has not made further comment since then.

And many of her followers were quick to criticise her for posting on social media without having addressed Donald Trump’s press conference.

One wrote: “Nothing about Charlottesville eh barbie?”

Another said: “Speak up Ivanka!!! Who cares about ur dad’s money and power!!! U don’t need it!! Speak Up” (sic).

One commenter called her a “silent coward”, whilst another wrote the hashtag “complicit”.

Not everyone was critical of Ivanka however, and one person showed her support for the First Daughter, writing: “Ivanka, I’m sorry so many people feel it’s their right to attack and insult you everyday.

“Thanks for doing your best everyday, keeping a steady path and serving our country.

“It’s not easy, and you need to know that not everyone is full of hateful, mean spirited thoughts towards you. Hang in there girl, sorry about this feed.”

Another fan echoed these sentiments, saying simply: “Thanks you for your great incredible work.”
