ITV This Morning: ‘Doing it deliberately’ Stanley Johnson hits out at May’s Brexit plan

This Morning was hosted by Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes today as Holly Willoughby was absent due to illness.

Nevertheless, joining them on the sofa was former politician and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2017 contestant Stanley Johnson.

After discussing the latest how he was involved in, The Real Marigold on Tour airing on BBC One tonight, Schofield couldn’t help but ask him about his Christmas dinner and whether it went smoothly despite his children all having different political agendas, which nicely led onto his opinion on the current state of Brexit.

At the moment, Theresa May is battling to get the best deal for the UK once we leave the European Union on March 29 this year.

Most recently, she revealed she would remove the requirement for a 21-day period before any vote on an international treaty in a bid to speed up the process of getting a deal.

But it does mean the Prime Minsiter could delay the Brexit vote until just days before the UK is set to leave.

And it’s this point in particular Johnson seems to think is “deliberate”, as the pressure of knowing the exit date is looming could put pressure on MPs to just accept what she has.

“If we’re talking about Brexit, I do have a view,” Johnson said getting straight to the point.

“I think it’s going to go right down to the wire. Mrs May is doing it deliberately, she’s playing for time.

“She’ll come back with something and even Boris will fall into line.

“Then she will say ‘Yes I’m going over the line now’ and that is my prediction.”

Will May end up forcing the hand of her government and the opposition?

Those watching the interview at home took to Twitter to discuss Johnson’s appearance.

One said: “@thismorning I bloody adore Stanley Johnson,” whilst another commented: “I love Stanley #ThisMorning.”

“Gotta love Stanley Johnson on This Morning #ThisMorning,” a third said.

A viewer also tweeted: “I actually love Stanley… loved him on the Marigold Hotel #ThisMorning.”

Meanwhile, viewers saw a show gaffe during yesterday’s show.

Moments into the show beginning, Schofield and co-host Willoughby mistakenly read each other’s cues, leaving them both confused.

Sighing, Willoughby exclaimed: “So far, I have said two names.” Schofield added: “Three seconds we have been on air. Three seconds!”

Schofield added: “We can’t speak. Okay that’s it.”

He then guided Willoughby off set as the 38-year-old could be seen waving at viewers as they walked off.

As the pair walked off, Schofield continued: “Bye everyone. Thanks for tuning in.”

The cameras began to follow the pair off set but Schofield snapped: “No, no don’t cut to us, we’re off.”
