How old is Prince Philip? Royal in hospital as reached this grand age

Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital and will be having a hip operation tomorrow.

It has not been revealed whether the Duke of Edinburgh is having a hip replacement, or another kind of operation.

“His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII hospital in London this afternoon for planned surgery on his hip, which will take place tomorrow,” a spokeswoman said.

Prince Philip’s health has been the focus of speculation for some time, given his grand age. 

The Duke has missed three events over the past few weeks thanks to his hip.

The husband of Elizabeth II is a whopping 96-years-old, and age anyone should be proud of.

The royal, a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, married the Queen in 20 November 1947.

The former military man was born into the Greek and Danish royal families.

He is the Lord High Admiral of the Royal Navy and has the highest rank in all three branches of the Canadian Armed Forces.

He is also a Knight Grand Cross (GCVO) of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Duke has missed various other event recently thanks to his health.

He missed three event in 10 days, including the Maundy Money service on Thursday.

A courtier said: “The Duke of Edinburgh has an issue with his hip which is affecting his mobility.

“There’s no cause for alarm but frankly he’s a proud man and doesn’t want to appear crocked in public.

“He’s not called the Iron Duke for nothing.”

A royal insider gave a recent update on the Duke of Edinburgh’s health and insited he is well. 

A royal insider recently revealed to Express.co.uk that the royal is in “good health”.

The insider added that the announcement to roll back his duties earlier in the year was unexpected: “Who knew the Duke was going to scale back last year?”

The source stressed that the Duke’s decision was not for medical reasons: “There’s nothing wrong with his health. He’s in good health.

They claimed the real reason for his retirement was ”because he wants to spend more time at Windsor and Sandringham.”
