VICTORIAN racing continues to suffer at the hands of weather extremes after today’s Bendigo meeting was abandoned because of heavy overnight rain.
The 10-race program was called off after surface water pooled on the track following 21mm of rain.
The abandonment follows the loss of virtually two full meetings at Pakenham because of winds.
The decision to call off the Bendigo fixture is the third meeting lost in four weeks.
The combined loss of 26 races since July 17 will impact turnover.
Racing Victoria has moved quickly to offset the impact on the 115 horses who missed a run at Bendigo.
It scheduled an additional race for Horsham for next Tuesday, added a 1000m Benchmark 70 to Wednesday’s Sandown program and extended nominations for Moe on Saturday and Cranbourne and Wodonga on Sunday.
