Flights with such budget airlines as Ryanair and easyJet are undeniably cheap but they can often be uncomfortable in many ways for passengers. By taking certain steps, however, a flight can be improved – and being savvy with your hand luggage is a great place to start. Travel experts at US website The Points Guy have revealed the all-important item to include in your cabin baggage. It can help make your flight all the more peaceful as you will be less bothered by any noise.
They advise packing – and wearing – noise-cancelling headphones to help you better survive the flight.
“Announcements typically hit just as you are nodding off for your nap, so a nice pair of noise-cancelling headphones would ensure a little peace and quiet on your flight,” The Points Guy contributor Lori Zaino said.
There are also items you should consider not packing if travelling with Ryanair, now the low-cost airline’s hand luggage rules are so strict.
Passengers with the budget airline can now only travel with a personal bag that measures no more than 40cm x 20cm x 25cm for free and need to pay extra if they wish to extra bags on board.
Such strict regulations require passengers to be expert minimalist packers if they wish to avoid splashing out.
Adam Ewart, founder of luggage shipping company Send My Bag, has shared his top packing tips to help passengers on their next flight – and there’s one thing, in particular, you should avoid packing.
Ryanair passengers should definitely steer clear of packing toiletries, Adam reveals.
“There are few more heavy and bulky items than bottled liquids, gels and aerosols, and they are also prone to leaking and can cause a security concern.
“Items such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and sunblock can be bought at your destination for minimal amounts versus luggage costs with most airlines.”
Travellers should also not pack any books as these are heavy and take up too much space, experts at luggage storage network Stasher advised.
Instead, use a tablet device and download books onto that, thereby keeping a whole selection of material at your fingertips.
Under Ryanair’s new policy, only a small handbag or laptop-size bag will be allowed onboard.
For passengers who want to bring more luggage, for the price of £6 they can benefit from priority boarding and can bring both a small bag and a larger bag for the overhead locker.
However, with the majority of passengers opting for priority boarding so they can bring more luggage on, airport queues have increased.
Passengers have united on Twitter to point out that despite paying extra they are being made to wait in line.
One passenger tweeted: “Ryanair how can you advertise as priority boarding when over half the plane have so-called ‘priority’?”
Another wrote: “As expected, Ryanair’s new policy that you must purchase Priority to get your small bag in the cabin = everyone books Priority.”
“Expect this to become the new ‘normal’ and something else to be removed for additional purchase. Successful but relentlessly irritating business plan.”
