Grand National 2017 – THIS is how to get to Aintree to AVOID train strike distruption

The strike will be taking place on Saturday 8th April, and the action is linked to disputes about the roles and responsibilities of conductors.

If you were planning on getting the train, you may think you now face the option of driving or cancelling your trip – but there is another way.

Travel search engine www.gopili.co.uk has provided transport options across coaches and trains so that you can plan exactly how to get to the racecourse.

Those coming from the South East can either take a direct coach, or to save money, travel via London and Manchester using a number of alternative routes.

Those making the journey from Brighton should catch a train and then a coach to Liverpool via London, at a cost of £12.20.

Travelling from Portsmouth requires two coaches via Manchester, but costs an eye-watering £45, the most expensive alternative journey on the list.

Two coaches from Southampton via London costs a very reasonable £8.

Those coming from the north also face disruption as there are strikes on Northern and Merseyside routes.

Luckily for northern racegoers, all alternative suggestions are direct, with most going to the Aintree racecourse rather than terminating elsewhere.

The cheapest journey goes from Leeds – the coach costs £6.90, but is one of the few not to go straight to the racecourse.

The coach from Blackpool costs £34.50, but does at least take racegoers right to Aintree.

If you haven’t made travel plans yet you might want to consider the coach even if strikes aren’t affecting your local train line, as it could be much cheaper.
