‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival May Be Revived

The final installment of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, last year’s Netflix-enabled Gilmore Girls revival, ended with an open invitation to continue the story. Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, there’s a good chance the series will be revived yet again, with a second Netflix season.

According to chief content officer Ted Sarandos, Netflix is in “very preliminary” talks with series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino to bring back Gilmore Girls. It’s a no-brainer for the streaming giant: A Year in the Life drew millions of viewers, becoming one of its most successful original productions.

When the revival premiered back in November, seven years after the original show’s finale, Sherman-Palladino said she and her husband and collaborator, Daniel Palladino, wrote the season’s four 90-minute episodes without necessarily planning for another run. (Incidentally, Sherman-Palladino is adjusting very nicely to the new TV landscape: She’s got a pilot for Amazon premiering next week.)

But — and here’s where the spoilers abound, so stop reading if you haven’t seen the Netflix episodes — the final episode ended with the revelation that Rory (Alexis Bledel) is pregnant, possibly with Logan’s (Matt Czuchry) child. That reveal lands golden-girl Rory right back where her mother, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), started, raising a child as a single mother — since Logan is engaged to another woman. Mericifully, it looks like that thread won’t be left dangling for another seven years.
