Game of Thrones season 8: Art director spills ‘MAMMOTH’ finale secrets 'It'll be amazing'

Production is well underway for the last offering of Game of Thrones as cast shoot their scenes and fans speculate on what could happen.

The art director on the programme has now exposed some truths about the upcoming episodes, which may surprise those who watch the show.

Deborah told Game of Thrones fan site Winter Is Coming: “We’re working very hard. [Showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] set the bar very high, and every year we have to keep trying to jump over it.

“So at the moment we’re so deep inside of that that I think come the end we’re all gonna be sort of so proud and so thrilled and it will be time to move on.”

“The people are incredible. What we’re building’s incredible. You know, the storylines…bringing this show to an end? I mean, what an amazing sort of opportunity is that? What an experience.”

She went on to comment on the eight season, which will contain only six instalments.

“Even though there might only be six episodes, they’re so mighty and mammoth and just monsters of things to bring to the screen, that from a production design point of view we have been incredibly busy.”

She continued: “We have now got, y’know, teams of people working 24 hours a day, trying to get the build ready. Miguel Sapochnik’s just started shooting, so we’ve got sort of his massive sequences that…particularly in March. We’re so busy with massive things in March. It’ll be amazing.”(sic)

Deborah has been the art director of the fantasy epic since the fourth season.

She’s brought scenes set in the ruins of Valyria, the House of Black and White and the Dragonstone room to life, to name but a few.

Deborah was also recently awarded an accolade at the Art Director’s Guild Awards in the category of One-Hour Period or Fantasy Single-Camera Series for her work.

Fans of the drama were given a hint as to when the series could start after Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams revealed a possible air date.

Speaking to Metro, Maisie said: “We air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There’s a lot that goes into the final edit.

“You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.”

HBO bosses revealed earlier this year that the show would be returning next year, but did not specify any particular month.

However, Maisie’s comments are yet to be confirmed, so fans will just have to wait and see.

Game of Thrones will return to Sky Atlantic in 2019.
