Now, the actor who plays the twin sister and lover of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), has teased his fate and it’s not looking too good.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau admitted his character was an “idiot” for thinking he could kill Daenerys.
He said: “Jaime is such an idiot that he thinks for a second, ‘If I can do this, I can win the whole thing in a Hail Mary.”
The star also revealed when they were filming the spectacular closing scene that the script direction told the actors, “One of our main characters is about to die”.
Although Nikolaj wouldn’t reveal to the publication if his character survives, when he discussed his relationship with Cersei, the actor said: “It’s not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can’t imagine.”
Elsewhere, the 47-year-old admitted he had sympathy for his character’s soldiers as he said: “Even though Daenerys is the hero and the Lannisters are the villains, being burned alive is not great.
“It’s a terrifying thing when this monster flamethrower comes along and incinerates thousands and thousands of men who are just doing their job.”
Despite the grisly end for many of the Lannister force, the episode topped its all-time US ratings record with an incredible 10.2 million people tuning in to watch the HBO hit show last Sunday.
The previous record was set just a few weeks earlier when the seventh season premiered to 10.1 million viewers.
Game of Thrones continues on HBO this Sunday in the US and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic on Monday at 2am. Catch up on seasons one to seven on NOW TV.
