Game of Thrones season 7 spoiler: Has Jaime Lannister's DEATH been accidentally confirmed?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones season seven, episode four The Spoils of War.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister in the HBO fantasy drama, seemed to suggest that the end was nigh for his character.

The 47-year-old star explained how he wanted his character to get killed off, saying: “I think he’ll probably die burned by a dragon”, adding that he thought his death would be “something with fire”.

Danish-born Nikolaj went on to tell Argentina Comic Con: “If I have to choose, I would love to survive.”

The interview took place back in May, however following the airing of the latest Game of Thrones instalment his words seem to have taken on new meaning and suggest it could be curtains for the Kingslayer.

While it was left ambiguous at the end of the episode whether Jaime had survived getting a blast of fiery from one of Daenerys Targaryen’s (played by Emilia Clarke) dragons, Nikolaj’s words seemed to suggest that his character could have been killed off.

The Spoils of War came to a shocking end with Jaime being dragged under water by trusty sellsword Bronn (Jerome Flynn), who pulled him out of the way just as he was about to be consumed by flames.

In the final shot of the cliffhanger, Jaime was seen under the surface of the water as flames could be seen overhead as the screen turned to black and cut to the credits.

The actor has been dropping many hints that his time on Game of Thrones is coming to an end, he previously told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can’t imagine.”

Next week’s episode called Eastwatch promises to be equally as thrilling after a sneak preview dropped after last night’s episode.

In the short clip the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and his army are heading for Eastwatch, where the sea appears to have frozen over and allowed the White Walkers to bypass the Wall.

Game of Thrones continues on HBO this Sunday in the US and will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic on Monday at 2am. Catch up on seasons one to seven on NOW TV.
