The Instutute is the tale of a young woman in 19th Century Baltimore who is traumatised by the shocking loss of her parents.
She checks into the Rosewood Institute seeking help. Instead she is subjected to increasingly abusive and graphic experiments.
However, the doctors underestimate their latest victim and she soon plans her revenge which she naturally executes in a graphic and horrifying fashion.
The Institute stars Franco as one of the staff, the menacing Dr Cairn, and the Hollywood star added to his laurels by co-directing the movie with Pamela Romanowsky.
Another Pamela also pops up in a most unexpected way.
Pamela Anderson may be appearing in the Baywatch reboot later this summer, but there isn’t a red bikini in sight here.
The sex-symbol is almost unrecognisable as she stalks through her scenes here in a severe black dress and a total lack of glamour-girl make-up.
The shock plus the palpitations caused by the disturbing trailer almost left us in need of mounth-to-mouth resucitation.
