NEW ZEALAND has ended its 26-year wait for a second Winter Olympic medal in stunning fashion, as a pair of teenagers sensationally tripled the nation’s all-time tally in the space of two hours.
Freeskier Nico Porteous claimed halfpipe bronze in PyeongChang on Thursday, less than two hours after Big Air snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott had broken the country’s lengthy medal drought.

The 16-year-old Porteous laid down a second run scoring 94.8 to finish behind Americans David Wise and Alex Ferreira, who won gold and silver respectively.
Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, also 16, won bronze behind Anna Gasser and Jamie Anderson in the Olympic debut of women’s Big Air snowboarding to become the first Kiwi Winter Olympic medallist since alpine skier Annelise Coberger at the 1992 Albertville Games.
