Flight secrets revealed: There’s a hidden bedroom on planes and THIS is what it’s used for

While many find it hard to sleep on long haul flights, it may come as a surprise there is a secret bedroom on board the plane.

The room contains soft, flat beds with plush cushions to allow a select few to sleep comfortably while the flight is taking place.

Many even have curtains to block the outside light and afford the sleeper some privacy while they catch forty winks.

The bedroom is known, by another name, as the “crew rest area”, and it is exclusive to – you guessed it – cabin crew.

“The crew rest area is used solely for crew to rest in, as there are regulations that crew must get a proper rest period,” said an anonymous flight attendant.

“This is for safety reasons to keep them alert on long haul flights.”

“This is the only secret room on the plane – passengers don’t notice it most of the time,” added the insider.

“There are bunks as we are required to have flat rest. The Boeing 777 plane has one of the best crew rest areas,” she revealed.

In fact, it was previously revealed pilots have their own hidden doorway to escape the plane in the case of emergencies.

The hatch to this door is placed in the ceiling of the cockpit, where the pilots sit, to evacuate the plane quickly.

While crew always show passengers where emergency exits are, it is unlikely they will use the same ones themselves.

They instead will escape through this hidden exit, most likely to prevent too much crowding of the other exits.

The rooms are accessed via a secret door or staircase, which is away from the prying eyes of plane passengers.

There are also some pilot rest areas separate to the crew area, like that on the Boeing 777 planes, which provide the equivalent of a business class seat for pilots to sleep in.

There is also a separate bathroom area with a sink or a toilet for both pilots and crew to use.

Some of these areas also include televisions, or small iPad sized screens, for plane staff to entertain themselves during breaks.
