Flight attendant reveals why you DON’T want to be the first off a plane in an emergency

Flight safety demonstrations are important to watch when the plane is taking off.

Despite many passengers admitting to ignoring them, some of the procedures could end up saving a life.

The brace position is one that many actually do incorrectly and learning the correct way could make a huge difference.

Another safety element is the inflatable slide which is deployed in an emergency.

Yet a member of the cabin crew has warned that passengers may not want to be the first one off the plane to use it.

To be the first one to use the emergency slide on the plane, the passenger must be one of the most responsible people onboard.

After using the slide, the passenger must then wait at the bottom of the slide and help others off if it is placed on the ground.

The flight attendant took to Reddit to explain the procedure to disembark during an emergency.

They wrote: “The first passenger to slide down the slide has to pull other passengers off the slide.

“The command for this is: ‘You slide down first! Stay at the bottom! PULL PEOPLE OFF!’”

However, they admit that most passengers will ignore this rule and think about themselves first.

They remarked: “When they have finished laughing about the poor English, they will probably run away and save their own lives instead of pulling anybody off.”

Cabin crew must stay on the plane until the end to make sure passengers are able to jump off.

There is even a designated handle for them to hold on to by the emergency doors.

This is so that, if passengers in their rush to escape, jostle them, they can avoid being pushed out of the door.

Flight attendants have previously admitted hating passengers who ignore the safety demonstration as it puts everyone else at risk.

One wrote on Quora: “If you can’t get out in a fire, the cabin are not going to risk their lives to come and get you.

“You’ve got to wait for the fire service who have the equipment to survive in the smoke.”

Passengers need to know what to do in an emergency to be able to make it off a plane safety.

To pass safety regulations, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) order that every plane must be able to be evacuated in 90 seconds.
