First Dates viewers in floods of tears as hopeful passes away after filming

On the Channel 4 episode, viewers saw Norman, 72, bond with Margaret, 74 during their date at the restaurant.

The pair hit it off as they spoke about their love for adventure, their zest for life and about the fact they both have tattoos.

They also opened about the loves they’d lost as Norman spoke about his late wife Sadie, who passed away 17 years ago.

He said: “I miss her all the time. But I try to enjoy life, she wouldn’t want me moping about.”

After their date, it was revealed the two had enjoyed more time together and danced the night away at a Masonic ladies night.

But just before the closing credits, the show announced Norman had died surrounded by his family shortly after filming.

The tribute said: “After going on several dates, Norman took Margaret to a Masonic ladies night.

“Norman’s motto was to live life to the full. At 72, Norman’s love for life took him to Greece where he sadly passed away surrounded by the family he adored.”

Those watching were shocked to hear the very sad news and many took to Twitter to express their condolences with many calling Norman a “true gentleman”.

One emotional viewer wrote: “Crying my eyes out… Can’t believe Norman passed away. A true gent; his family should be so proud of him. #FirstDates #Norman #RIPNorman.”

“Omg I’m shaking! Did not expect that about Norman He seemed like such a gent! #FirstDates,” said another.

A third person said: “That ending to #FirstDates was the most heart breaking ever! Norman and Margret both came across so well and had a bright future together! Both were full of life and wanted to live life to the full! #RIPNorman.”

“Heartbroken watching #FirstDates – genuinely sobbing, Norman had such an appreciation for life,” added one viewer.
