And in an exclusive video, above, for Express Sport he calls on Southgate’s Lions to do themselves proud.

Terry Butcher message to England in full

As you know, the people of England are singing ‘Football’s Coming Home’.

You are the only ones who can make that happen. It’s delivery time!

Have no regrets: we did not quite get there in 1990. Now you have the chance to tread in the footsteps of the legends of 1966. They did it; they became immortal.

See that star above the badge on your jersey – they put that there. Now you can be responsible for putting another one alongside it. That is your mission.

Germany have got four stars, Brazil as we know have got five. We need to start the process of catching them up.

Children proudly wear their England jerseys knowing the gold star means 1966.

One day, when there’s a row of stars, you will always be able to point to that second one on your grandchild’s jersey and say, ‘You know, that was me!’

Come on England!

England face Croatia on Wednesday night in England’s first semi-final since 1990.

Southgate has led his side through against Colombia and Sweden after coming second to Belgium in the group.

The win over Tunisia in the last minute of the opening game started the party before the 6-1 thrashing over Panama.

And the euphoria has followed ever since with fans growing in belief that football is coming home.
