Vanessa Woodfield (played by Michelle Hardwick) finally found a way to bring down rapist Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather) on yesterday’s instalment of the ITV soap, and tonight she arranged a meeting with the elusive Martha (Elaine Claxton).
Using the contact details on Martha’s letter to Pierce that he threw away, Vanessa contacted her, but eagle-eyed viewers spotted an error when she received a text back.
The message simply said: “Can meet today?” but some fans were focused on the date it was sent, which, instead of saying it was sent today, the information showed that it had been received on a Tuesday.
“Vanessa needs to update her software if her phone thinks today’s a Tuesday,” one Emmerdale fan tweeted.
Meanwhile, Martha’s identity was finally revealed when Vanessa brought her to Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) hen do and she announced that she was Pierce’s mother.
Pierce seemed just as stunned as Rhona at her arrival, and later his reaction turned aggressive as he threatened his mother to stay away from them.
During a private conversation between the reunited pair, he grabbed her wrist, hurting her.
When Martha went back to find Rhona, she dropped a hint that Pierce had “a mistake” in his past and suggested she ask him about it.
But, as Rhona confronted Pierce, he turned defensive and manipulative, turning the situation around on her and blaming her for not trusting him.
In a dramatic cliffhanger, he called off the wedding, saying that Rhona had allowed Martha and Vanessa to “destroy” their relationship, adding: “I can’t marry you. The wedding’s off.”
