EastEnders star Joe left the BBC soap back in 2000 but following the return of Mel (played by Tamzin Outhwaite) and Hunter (Charlie Winter), fans have been wondering whether Matthew will show his face.
Hunter’s father Steve had Matthew framed for the murder of Saskia Duncan, for which he spent time in prison for.
The pair later had an epic showdown when Matthew held Steve hostage and made him beg for his life.
Following Hunter’s arrival in Walford, Steve’s crimes have been dragged up from the past but Joe has insisted Matthew won’t be popping up to surprise the teen with more revelations about his father.
“I live in Cornwall now, I’ve got a different life,” the actor explained.
“I still do acting, but I don’t know if I’d go back to that intense filming schedule.
“I’ve got three kids and would have to move back to London. I quite like Cornwall and my life here.”
But while he may not be making a return to Albert Square as Matthew, Joe admitted he has been tuning into recent events in EastEnders.
“Steve’s got a kid!” he told OK! Online. “It’s crazy because it doesn’t seem that long ago, so for her to have a kid that age… It’s good Mel is back, I must watch, especially with Steve’s son in it.”
“Keeping my eye on that boy,” he added.
It comes as Big Mo (Laila Morse) is set to make a return to Walford this week to deliver the news that Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) is dead.
However as Stacey (Lacey Turner) sets about planning her memorial and the locals celebrate her life, she will make a dramatic arrival.
In a new trailer, she can be seen pulling up to the Queen Vic in a black cab.
While fans can only see a flash of leopard print and a slick of red lipgloss, it’s all that’s needed to confirm that Kat is alive and well.
Kat and Big Mo will soon be joined by Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) with the Slater clan set to reunite under the roof of number 31 Albert Square.
EastEnders airs tonight on BBC One at 7.30pm.
