EastEnders: Ben Mitchell exit postponed? 'Harry Reid's the best they've had'

Following three explosive years on the BBC soap, it was recently announced that Ben would be written out of future storylines.

Enraged by the news, fans launched an online petition to prevent the decision from taking place in a bid to keep their favourite Walford mechanic.

With the creation of a campaign to keep Ben on Albert Square, hordes of people signed up on Change.org to prevent the actor from leaving.

The description said emphatically: “We the under signed urge John Yorke not to get rid of Ben Mitchell.

“Harry Reid is the best Ben that EastEnders have had and you could do a lot more with his character.”

Viewers were also keen to stress that Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick) would be heartbroken without his best friend.

The petition continued: “Even if you kept Luke in, what about Jay? Ben and Jay belong together too.”

Begging producers to let Harry remain on the soap, fans expressed their feelings in the comments thread too.

”He is one of the reasons I watch EastEnders. He is a good and convincing actor and there are others in the soap you could pick on,” one person shared. “Let him stay… it’s a big mistake on your part to let him go.”

Another wrote: ”Please producer, Harry can’t leave the soap. He is the best actor that has played Ben. Please reconsider this decision,” continued another.

EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
