Eamonn Holmes talks ‘split’ with Ruth Langsford on This Morning: ‘No animosity’

Eamonn Holmes, 60, and Ruth Langford, 60, have been married for 10 years and have one son together, Jack Holmes, 18. The husband and wife have also hosted This Morning together since 2006 and have discussed their marital life with viewers of the ITV show on numerous occasions. They often joke about their disputes at home and wind each other up on-screen. However, on Thursday’s programme, they revealed what would happen if they were to split.

After talking about the idea of blended families with resident Agony Aunt Vanessa Feltz, 58, Eamonn said: “Baring in mind there are a lot of people with their exes who do get on particularly well.

“I know if Ruth and I were to split, there would be no animosity between us, would there?” he continued.

Giving a rather astonished look to the camera, Ruth then said: “What do you think Vanessa? What kind of an ex would I be?”

The presenter replied: “You would be bitter, twisted, agonising and it would make a brilliant reality TV show.”

Laughing at her co-star’s response, the host’s wife said: “Correct. You know me too well,” with the Agony Aunt hoping a “split never happens”.

The beloved television duo have actually been together for over 20 years and have revealed what they believe the secret to a happy marriage is.

Speaking on the show last year, Eamonn told his wife: “The secret is compromise, the secret is consideration and lots of conjugals.”

Ruth followed up by saying: “I would say laughter is what keeps us together. Eamon’s very good actually. We have a very equal relationship, it’s very equal in our marriage.

“People will say, ‘who wears the trousers,’ well nobody. You find your way, he’s not the boss and I’m not the boss – in modern relationships that’s probably how it should be.”

Throughout the summer, the husband and wife will be hosting in place of Phillip Schofield, 59, and Holly Willoughby, 39, who are taking a break from the show.

This Morning isn’t the only programme they’re involved in at the moment as the couple are also featuring in the second series of Celebrity Gogglebox.

Therefore, fans will be delighted the wedded duo will be seen on-screens to entertain viewers for the next six weeks.

Earlier this week, Eamonn took to Instagram to post an announcement about his and his wife’s work schedule.

Alongside a picture of a naked couple jumping into a lake, the presenter wrote: “Ruth and I are so happy to be taking the plunge on This Morning for the next 7 weeks that we wanted to end our week holiday refreshed and with something to remember!”

Some of his 661,000 followers responded to the post, with one writing: “You two will get us through this summer. Thank you.”

A second added on the social media platform: “Ruth & Eammon thank [you] looking forward to it.. you 2 are cool calm and sassy xx.” [sic]

Whilst a third commented: “Literally so happy about this!! Working from home, so you will be keeping me going!”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
