Duchess of Cambridge CATCHES Countess of Wessex…and pair BURST into laughter at Ascot

Day one of Royal Ascot almost ended in disaster for the Countess of Wessex, 52, when she suddenly tripped over in the carriage she was riding in.

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, Countess of Wessex, Sophie, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge were sharing the same carriage while riding in on day one of the horse racing event.

But things took an unexpected turn after she stood up in the carriage, lost her balance and tripped over.

Luckily, the Countess fell into the safe hands of the Duchess of Cambridge.

Stopping Sophie from falling flat on her face or out of the carriage, Kate used her fast reactions and held out both her hands to steady the Countess.

Once the shock moment was over, the two royals burst into laughter, before carrying on with the day’s events.

The Duchess of Cambridge was dressed in crisp summer white to this year’s Royal Ascot

She wore a high neck white lace dress with a fitted top and full skirt, which she chose to wear despite the UK heatwave.

The dress had a delicate white ribbon tied around the waist, and she paired the dress with a nude snakeskin clutch bag.

She wore no other jewellery on her hands but her impressive engagement ring.

Topping the look off was a hat which featured small white flowers and delicate pearls.

The Duchess of Cambridge is known for her thrifty style, wearing outfits more than once.

But it was Queen Elizabeth II today who showed signs of being thrifty today.

The Queen arrived wearing a bright, colourful green outfit with a matching hat.

And the outfit she wore was the same two-piece she wore to the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings back in 2014.

Although she swapped out the brooch for another one, the outfit was exactly the same.
