Downton Abbey movie: Star reveals big problem with cast reunion – 'It's like herding cats'

The 63 year old – who played Mrs Hughes on the hugely popular period drama, which ended its run of six seasons over a year ago – appeared on Good Morning Britain today.

She admitted to hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway: “We’d love to have one last hurrah, but it’d be like herding cats.

“The will is definitely there with everybody involved. So, fingers crossed that we can make it all come about at some stage.”

The Scottish actress continued to lament: “In normal film situations you might have a core cast of half a dozen or whatever. But this is a core cast of thousands it feels like at times.”

Fans were left feeling bittersweet when the Abbey finally closed its doors on Christmas Day in 2015, but the series’ star Jim Carter also alluded to a spin-off earlier this year on the breakfast show

He revealed: “We’ve been asked to keep ourselves available at dates in the future.

“I think there’s a willingness there to do a film but until there’s a script there’s no film.” Carter added.

Created by Julian Fellowes, the series enjoyed commercial success for its duration and dominated the Sunday night time slot. Yet there were a number of shock deaths on the hit show, including that of Lady Mary’s beau Matthew Crawley.

But Dan Stevens, who played the ill-fated ex-lawyer, can be seen playing one of the titular characters in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast movie later this month.

Fellowes has said of the possibility for one more farewell to the show: “The difficulty is rounding up the actors. One is in America making a new series, another is in a play.”

While both Carter and Logan seem to be excited at the prospect of playing their roles one more time, Joanne Froggatt, who played maid Anna Smith in the drama, took it one step further before them.

She said: “I’d absolutely jump at the chance to star in it if I’m asked. I’ll squeeze it in.”
