Deep State location: Where is Deep State filmed? Where is it set?

Episode one of Deep State will be airing this evening (Thursday, April 5) on FOX UK at 9pm.

Viewers can also livestream the programme on video-on-demand platform NOW TV or watch the show after broadcast.

A summary for Deep State reads: “The story centres around Max Easton (played by Mark Strong), an ex-spy whose past comes back to haunt him as he returns to the field to avenge the death of his son Harry (Joe Dempsie).

“Max soon discovers there is much more at stake, as he finds himself at the heart of a covert intelligence war and immersed in a widespread conspiracy to profit from the spread of chaos in the Middle East.

“Max enters into a very dangerous game, as powerful corporations show that they are willing to do anything to preserve their reputation and bury their secrets.”

American audiences will have to wait until June 17 for Deep State to be aired on US channel Epix.

There will be eight episodes in total in the first run of Deep State.

Where is Deep State set?

Deep State is set in the present day and is a wide-reaching story, spanning across the globe from Britain to America to Iran to Lebanon and France, meaning that there are numerous settings.

The programme is immersed in the world of covert intelligence as spies carry out missions in various countries.

The show will see a group of intelligence operatives consisting of MI6 an CIA agents – known as the Section – tasked with assassinating an Iranian nuclear scientists in Tehran, Iran.

Deep State will also see retired spy Max and his idyllic life in the Pyrenees in France.

However, Max will be drawn to London by the death of his son Harry and given a new assignment.

He will then head to Beirut to track down the people responsible for Harry’s sudden and brutal demise.

WHO STARS IN DEEP STATE?

Where is Deep State filmed?

Deep State was filmed in locations in Morocco and London.

Morocco stood in for various places including Bahrain, France and Tehran, while London also doubled up as Washington DC.

Speaking about working in North African nation, director Robert Connolly said: “I’ve loved working in Morocco, the crews are very experienced.”

He went on to say: “The people we’re working with are very very experienced. When you see the series, the first four episodes have massive sequences.

“The biggest sequence I’ve ever directed is four minutes into the first episode which we filmed in Mohammedia. It has 300 extras and 40 stunt guys.

“There is so much drama now, so we’re looking for that point of difference on our screens and I think that visceral, authentic quality you get on this is fantastic.”

While executive producer Hilary Bevan Jones added: “We’re using the Moroccan crew and they’ve been fantastic. They are so full of appetite and good humour, really good humour.”

HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN DEEP STATE?

Will there will another series of Deep State?

The short answer is yes, Deep State has been given the green light for a second second even before its aired in Britain.

The show has attracted interest from across the globe with broadcasters from the likes of Denmark, France and Australia buying the rights to air it.

The show has been made by film and TV company Endor Productions, while Matthew Parkhill serves as Deep State’s showrunner.

FOX’s Chief Operating Officer Diego Londono told Deadline: “Matthew and the team at Endor have produced a brilliant and compelling new series for us, which has been getting tremendous feedback from both our pay-TV partners and buyers alike.

“As audiences across the globe begin on their Deep State journey, we’re delighted to demonstrate our commitment to both this thrilling new drama and to commissioning regional stories that can entertain audiences around the world, in line with our rich Hollywood heritage.”
