Deadpool 2: What does Brianna Hildebrand think of Negasonic as first Marvel LGBTQ hero?

The sequel to the unconventional Marvel film was released in cinemas earlier this year and saw Deadpool’s fellow superhero Negasonic Teenage Warhead in a relationship with mutant and Japanese ninja Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna).

Speaking to media including Express.co.uk at MCM Comic-Con, the actress said of her character’s sexuality: “I felt a lot of responsibility for her.

“Ryan [Reynolds] sent me an email about it when [the producers] were in the writing process asking if I would mind giving Negasonic a girlfriend. I was like, ‘Mind? I would be ecstatic about it!’

“I just asked him to make it – which I don’t think he or the writers would do, obviously – I felt it would be more impactful if it was just kind of mentioned, rather than Negasonic’s gay now and that’s what we’re going to focus on.”

HOW MANY END CREDITS ARE IN DEADPOOL 2?

Hildebrand added: “So, I think he and the writers did it really beautifully.”

When asked whether she found it ironic that the anarchic and highly politically incorrect Deadpool 2 was the first film in the Marvel universe to feature an LGBTQ character, she explained: “I think that’s part of what makes Deadpool so interesting to people in that sense.

“It’s kind like a breath of fresh air cinematically as superheroes go and I think that was a really cool opportunity that Ryan [Reynolds] took. I’m super proud of him for that.”

The Exorcist and Prism star admitted that there were “quite a few” scenes between Negasonic and Yukio that ended up on the cutting room floor.

“Hopefully they’re on the deleted scenes but there was a lot of cool stuff on there. Lots of cool outfits,” she teased.

Since Deadpool 2 has been released, Hildebrand revealed that she’d had notes from LGBTQ fans haling her portrayal.

“It just makes me feel so happy that I’ve helped someone feel comfortable in their skin. I think that’s awesome,” she said.

Will there be a Deadpool 3?

There’s been no official confirmation or announcement about a potential third outing but it seems likely that there will be at some point.

Actor Stefan Kapičić, who plays superhero Colossus, was also on the panel and teased: “Well, we have an extremely successful franchise, so there’s rumours about X-Force.

“So we’ll see what’s going to happen and just wait. We’re not allowed to say.”

When asked if there was anything he wanted to translate from the comics to the big screen, the star said: “I’m waiting for Colossus to meet his sister Illyana and the mutants to come.

“I’m hoping you’ll have Rasputin’s back in the movie, so we’ll see what’s going to happen but I’m really counting on that.”
