David Ospina to start FA Cup final for Arsenal against Chelsea ahead of Petr Cech

Arsenal have had a poor season after failing to qualify for the Champions League, putting even more emphasis on Saturday’s FA Cup final (5.30pm).

The Gunners can appease some supporters by beating their local rivals and current Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley.

However, Arsene Wenger has risked the wrath of Arsenal fans by opting to leave experienced No1 Petr Cech on the bench in favour of David Ospina.

The Colombia international has hardly featured this season, last turning out in the FA Cup in the fifth-round 2-0 win over Sutton United.

And Wenger’s decision to play the 28-year-old makes even less sense given reports he is set to leave the club in the summer.

about a £5million move to the Turkish club.

He is reportedly fed up of playing second fiddle to Cech and wants to leave the Emirates.

Ospina was always Wenger’s preferred choice in the Champions League, with eight of his 13 appearances this term coming in the competition.

But his place in the FA Cup starting XI looked uncertain after he was dropped for the sixth-round game against Lincoln City and was ruled out for the semi-final win over with a back injury.

Cech, by comparison, has been in fine form for the Gunners and looked a shoo-in to make the final after his perfomances in the title run-in.

The 35-year-old has made 38 appearances for this season in all competitions, keeping 13 clean sheets.

While Ospina has turned out just 13 times, shutting the opposition out on four occasions.
