Presenter Louise Lear did a vanishing act as she suddenly disappeared from the screen during the bulletin as the graphics froze on the screen.
She was heard informing viewers: “Unfortunately, my weather graphics have just crashed on me, so I will continue with the weather story.”
Louise seemed to be laughing as she added: “I don’t think we’re going to be able to do this for much longer.”
The meteorologist then mustered on as her disembodied voice described the weather while the screen remained stuck on the same graphic.
It was clear that Louise became unsure of whether she was still on air as she said: “If you can still hear me, we’re likely to have showers.”
However, her report was abruptly cut short as the screen briefly went blank, before a strange split screen of half the BBC One logo and the weather map flashed up.
The BBC announcer could then be heard informing audience members: “Well, I’m sorry, we seem to have lost Louise there and the weather. We’ll try to get back as soon as possible.”
But the person on voiceover seemed to hesitate and was uncertain about what was going on as he went on to say: “If not… we’ll return the final part of Countryfile here on BBC One.”
After more silence and the strange screen, the announcer returned again: “Well, apologies we can’t continue with the weather here on BBC One but we will return now to Countryfile.”
The channel appeared to get things back on track as viewers got the last segment of tonight’s episode of Countryfile.
Tonight’s episode of the BBC wildlife show even had a segment praising the impact of Brexit on farming.
Countryfile continues on BBC One next Sunday at 6.05pm.
