Coronation Street villain Pat Phelan (played by Connor McIntyre) escaped death after plunging into a hole that was filling up with concrete.
Although, the businessman struggled to free himself he was saved by his wife Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) and rushed to hospital.
Yet the dramatic moment fell short for some viewers, who pointed out that there was one thing that ruined the scene – the concrete.
Fans of the long-running ITV series complained that the concrete looked unrealistic and was not thick enough to hold Pat down.
Taking to Twitter to air their concerns, one viewer wrote: “That cement won’t set. Even I know it’s too wet.”
Another fumed: “I’ve worked on building sites and never have I seen concrete that watery, and certainly not pumping in overnight with no one watching it in case of any problems.”
A third exclaimed: “That isn’t concrete – it’s dirty dishwater!”
Others moaned about the logistics of the storyline, claiming it was not believable or practical.
One fan raged: “Oh for Christ sake. Pat Phelan pouring endless mass concrete for no reason at night in s*** weather with a pump, a mixer and no other f***** on site. Totally legit storyline that.”
Another groaned: “That’s not a very thick concrete mix Phelan. Neither would you ever be able to find a mobile phone in there amongst two bodies.”
Mass murderer Pat will eventually get his comeuppance after a long killing spree and countless secrets.
The builder will be rumbled by none other than his spouse Eileen, who grows suspicious of him in the coming episodes.
Coronation Street boss Kate Oates teased: “2018 is going to see the demise of Phelan. Connor [McIntyre] is so up for this challenge. He’s so excited about it and he’s playing it brilliantly.”
She went on to tell Radio Times that Pat’s “downfall” will involve his daughter Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorp) as well as Eileen.
“What I like about Phelan’s downfall is that it’s very much to do with Eileen. It’s to do with her realising who she’s married. It’s to do with Nicola and that child,” she added.
“You’ve got the high drama balanced out with the emotional family domestic drama, which is when I think Corrie is at its best.”
