Cirque du Soleil, Princess Di and stargazing: Things to do this week

WATCH

Spend a magical night at the circus with the agile acrobats of Cirque du Soleil as they tour the UK with their signature show, Varekai.

In this dynamic and spectacular show set in a fantasy world on the edge of time, a young man falls from the sky into a shadowy dream forest full of fabulous creatures.

Varekai is on at Leeds’ First Direct Arena from Wednesday until Sunday before it heads to Birmingham, Nottingham and Glasgow. For further information go to cirquedusoleil.com

VISIT

Meet some incredibly cute puppies and learn how they are trained as future life changers at the Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre. Scheduled tours of the Warwickshire centre run daily and are suitable for both children and adults.

The tour gives visitors the opportunity to see how the puppies develop and learn the skills that enable them to become guide dogs for the blind and partially sighted.

An expert guide – with a dog in tow – leads the tour and guests are able to test out the sensory tunnel to learn what life is like with sight loss. Visit guidedogs.org.uk/nbc-tours.

DO

Embrace the darkness during a stellar line-up of celestial events celebrating the sky at night.

The North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales and South Downs national parks are hosting the second Dark Skies Festival, which ends next Sunday.

Attractions include stargazing parties, ghost walks and rocket workshops. See darkskiesnationalparks.org.uk

GO TO

Princess Diana’s journey from shy ingénue to fashion queen is celebrated in a new exhibition of her clothing at Kensington Palace. From early public appearances to her later life in the spotlight, Diana: Her Fashion Story shows the style evolution of the Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997.

Exhibition highlights include the pale pink Emanuel blouse worn for her 1981 engagement portrait and the blue velvet Victor Edelstein gown she wore when she danced with John Travolta at the White House. Visit hrp.org.uk.
