Cheryl takes swipe at Girls Aloud co-star during TV reunion: ‘Thought we were friends’

Cheryl, 36, took part in the Sports Relief telethon last night as she and her fellow The Greatest Dancer captains were on hand to judge a very special celebrity edition of the hit BBC dance show. The panel had no idea who would be taking part and only found out which all-stars were performing when they took to the stage. However, the former Girls Aloud member was left utterly speechless when Kimberley, 38, revealed a secret she’d been harbouring.

Alongside former X Factor star Alexandra Burke, 31, Strictly Come Dancing champions Harry Judd, 34, and Jay McGuiness, 29, and Olympian Sam Quek, 31, Kimberley was revealed to be one of the contestants taking part.

Unbeknownst to Cheryl, her former band member had been rehearing a Chicago themed number and was going to be performing in front of her.

Detailing her secret in the videotape ahead of taking to the stage, the former Girls Aloud star said: “Obviously, I know Cheryl quite well, so that does put a bit of pressure on us.

“I’m going to keep it a secret from Cheryl, throw her off a bit,” she explained and the judge took a light-hearted swipe as she discovered what her friend had been up to.

As the routine got underway, Cheryl’s face showed it all as she was completely gobsmacked to see Kimberley strutting her stuff.

The all-star contestants performed their routine without a hitch and gained huge praise from the panel for their efforts.

Asked how she felt about dancing in front of her former band member, the Girls Aloud star said: “Quite terrifying, to be honest.”

Cheryl then gave her reaction to the her former co-star’s secret, with the captain joking: “I thought we were friends.”

Another added: “Cheryl’s reaction to Kimberley was the best #SportsRelief2020, whilst a third remarked: “Get yourself a friend who looks at you the way Cheryl looks at Kimberley.”

A fourth commented: “Cheryl’s face when she seen Kimberley though, she was in so much shock,” with a fifth sharing: “Cheryl’s reaction to Kimberley was the best #SportRelief2020.”

Last weekend saw the final of the Greatest Dancer air, with Cheryl once again losing out to her fellow dance captain, Oti Mabuse, 29.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional won with duo Michael and Jowita, taking the crown for the second time.

However, after just two series, it seems The Greatest Dancer could be axed as a result of low viewing figures.

With just 2.8 million tuning in to watch the finale, The Sun reports a decision could be made by Monday on whether the show will return next year.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for The Greatest Dancer for comment on the reports.

Could a full celebrity edition be on the cards following Kimberley and other all-stars performing in the Sports Relief special?
