The 41-year-old revealed he had been dropped from Strictly Come Dancing during an emotional interview on Lorraine yesterday.
After 14 years on the show, Cole claimed his exit was an “editorial” decision, but Charlotte Hawkins fears it could be her fault.
The Good Morning Britain reporter was Cole’s final partner on the BBC show, and his worst, after being eliminated in week four.
Piers Morgan teased Charlotte for the unfortunate accolade as he probed his co-star for more details about the shocking news.
“That makes it look like it’s my fault, like it was my dancing that was the last straw,” she despaired.
“I hope it was nothing to do with me,” she continued. “It’s a BBC decision.
“I think it’s really sad. He’s been there from the start and done 15 series.
“He is the one that spoke his mind. He did have my back when the judges were being harsh during criticisms.”
Morgan went on to slam the Beeb for “making a massive mistake”.
“I think they’ve been very PC about this and got rid of one of the great character’s of the show,” he fumed.
Later in today’s programme, Arlene Phillips also blasted Cole’s exit and hit out at judges Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli.
“I think the show needs conflict, excitement and challenges,” Phillips explained.
They went on to view a clip of Cole arguing with Ballas over his Tango with Hawkins during last year’s series.
Ballas could be seen claiming there was “too much rise and fall” in their routine, with Tonioli urging Cole to be “more respectful” to the judge.
Though, Phillips stressed the judges overreacted.
“Bruno jumping in and saying that’s not respectful, what are they? Headmaster and a kid in a school?” the 74-year-old laughed.
“For goodness sake! It’s a professional and celebrity entertainment show.”
She went on to add: “I don’t think Bruno should have jumped in. I think that was ridiculous.”
