Elite Sets Season 4 Premiere at Netflix https://briefnews.eu/elite-sets-season-4-premiere-at-netflix/ https://briefnews.eu/elite-sets-season-4-premiere-at-netflix/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 15:12:48 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/elite-sets-season-4-premiere-at-netflix/

Elite is going back to school this summer: Netflix’s Spanish-language teen drama will return with Season 4 on Friday, June 18. The streamer announced the date on Twitter Monday, along with eight new photos from the upcoming episodes.

The fresh installments will welcome several new cast members to the upper-class secondary school Las Encinas: Andrés Velencoso, Manu Rios, Carla Díaz, Martina Cariddi, Pol Granch and Diego Martín have joined the ensemble. Their characters will cross paths with Guzmán, Samuel, Ander, Omar, Rebeca and Cayetana.

The show’s Season 3 finale concluded with the exits of four fan-favorites: Lu (played by Danna Paola) and Nadia (Mina El Hammani) moved to New York to continue their educations; Carla (Ester Expósito) inherited her family’s wine business; and Valerio (Jorge López) took the reigns of Carla’s new venture. (Polo, of course, wasn’t so lucky and was accidentally killed by Lu.) As for the characters sticking around for Season 4, Omar joined his boyfriend Ander (plus Samuel, Guzmán and Rebeca) as a student at Las Encinas, while Cayetana became the school’s new janitor.

As previously reported, the series has already been picked up for a fifth season by Netflix, with Argentinian actress Valentina Zenere (Cable Girls) and Brazilian actor André Lamoglia (Juacas) boarding the ensemble.

Prince Philip wished Meghan and Harry stopped talking about themselves says Andrew Pierce https://briefnews.eu/prince-philip-wished-meghan-and-harry-stopped-talking-about-themselves-says-andrew-pierce/ https://briefnews.eu/prince-philip-wished-meghan-and-harry-stopped-talking-about-themselves-says-andrew-pierce/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 10:58:16 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/prince-philip-wished-meghan-and-harry-stopped-talking-about-themselves-says-andrew-pierce/

Commentator Andrew Pierce noted that writer Gyles Brandreth was aware of Prince Philip’s feelings towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview. While speaking on Good Morning Britain (GMB) Mr Pierce insisted Prince Philip was not hostile towards the couple. He claimed Prince Philip thought Prince Harry was a good man and was fine with his decision to step down as a senior royal.

According to Mr Brandreth, Prince Philip was hopeful the pair would talk about other important issues due to their platform.

Mr Pierce said: “You would think Prince Philip would be raging about this interview.

“But Gyles Brandreth has known Prince Philip for 40 years, they worked together in the playing fields association.

“He wrote a fantastic book about Prince Philip and the Queen’s marriage and he had great access to them.

“He said Prince Philip was okay about Prince Harry going away, he has got to lead his own life.”

Mr Pierce explained how Prince Philip felt about the interview between Meghan, Harry and Oprah.

He said: “Prince Philip said he was a good man and of the interview what he said was, I don’t think they should be talking about themselves all the time.

Prince Harry is expected to be at Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday as the Duke is reported to be in the UK quarantining

Due to being pregnant, Meghan Markle will not be joining her husband as she was reported not have been given the green light from her doctors to travel.

Tensions have been high between Prince Harry and the Royal Family, especially brother Prince William, following his interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However, the Dukes are expected to put aside their differences and walk side by side during the funeral.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 theories: June freed from Gilead in trade off for Waterfords https://briefnews.eu/the-handmaids-tale-season-4-theories-june-freed-from-gilead-in-trade-off-for-waterfords/ https://briefnews.eu/the-handmaids-tale-season-4-theories-june-freed-from-gilead-in-trade-off-for-waterfords/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 06:43:52 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-handmaids-tale-season-4-theories-june-freed-from-gilead-in-trade-off-for-waterfords/

The latest trailer for Hulu’s timely dystopian drama has teased a dark fate for the series’ relentless protagonist, June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss). However, fans of The Handmaid’s Tale could be in for another shocking twist as a new theory has proposed the former Handmaid could be used as leverage for the freedom of her old captors, the Waterfords.

June Osborne could eventually be freed from the grips of Gilead in the upcoming fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Trailers and synopses for the next episodes have confirmed June will be imprisoned once again in episode three, ‘The Crossing’.

Once under lock and key, June will be subjected to a heartrending reunion with her captured daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake).

However, the new footage has also confirmed Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) are walking free, despite their fate at the end of the third season.

Recent speculation has suggested their escape from Canadian authorities could be linked to June’s brief imprisonment in Gilead.

One fan took to Reddit to flesh out the theory after spotting some intriguing clues in the recent trailers.

User pinkroseginger posted: “Since the episode synopsis for the first three have been released, what if the Waterford’s are a trade for June?”

Although June caused significant trouble for the oppressive regime in the past, Gilead may have only taken her hostage in order to free two of its most prominent figureheads.

Having freed over 50 children over the border, Rita may attempt to convince the Canadian authorities that releasing the Waterfords in exchange for June’s freedom could eventually work in their favour.

The fan continued: “I highly doubt Rita will allow Canada to forget it was June who got those kids out.”

Referring to some recently released stills of the new season, they added: “Especially with some of the photos released of Rita speaking on a stage with a photo of June behind her.”

If these theories are on the right track, the Waterfords’ freedom could indirectly lead to some much needed comeuppance for June’s frequent persecutor, Serena Joy.

Under the rules of Gilead, her heavily rumoured pregnancy in season four would most likely lead to Serena Joy becoming a Handmaid herself.

Separating her from her newborn baby and subjecting her to the same misery she caused June in the Waterford household would certainly give Serena a taste of her own medicine.

Even so, nothing in The Handmaid’s Tale is ever predictable and, with a fifth season confirmed to be in the works, viewers should ready themselves for the next chapter in June’s story to be just as depressing as the last.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 premieres Wednesday, April 28 on Hulu.

Fear the Walking Dead Midseason Premiere Recap: RIP, [Spoiler] https://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-midseason-premiere-recap-rip-spoiler/ https://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-midseason-premiere-recap-rip-spoiler/#respond Mon, 12 Apr 2021 02:29:16 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/fear-the-walking-dead-midseason-premiere-recap-rip-spoiler/ Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s midseason premiere of Fear the Walking Dead. If you’d rather watch first, read later, off ya go.

Was irony ever crueler than in Sunday’s midseason premiere of Fear the Walking Dead? John spent the bulk of the episode alternating between expressing his death wish and planning his suicide (right down to Scrabble tiles that spelled out, “Goodbye, June”). Then, when said wish was granted, albeit not at all in the way that he — or we — could’ve anticipated, he had a change of heart. How did Garret Dillahunt’s sharpshooter go down? Read on — and weep.

‘IF IT’S TROUBLE YOU WANT, I GOT SOME FOR YA’ | A couple of weeks after John left June, he bumped into Morgan and Dakota at the convenience store from which he still rented VHS tapes. Though the old pals were happy to see one another, John refused Morgan’s invitation to be a part of the utopia that he was building in a dry river bed. After Virginia walkie-talkie’d, threatening Grace and all of their friends, John also refused Morgan’s request to join in the fight against the Rangers. He had, as aforementioned, other plans. But at least he would use his pickup to help get Morgan and Dakota past the walkers held back by a barricade on the bridge that was the only way north.

It wasn’t easy, of course. Sure, after a Ranger shot up the first truck before being dispatched by a reluctant John to save Morgan, Dorie just happened to have a second truck sitting around. But it needed parts. While he and Dakota went to the cabin next door to scavenge, Morgan found John’s telltale tiles and, as fast as he could, confronted his buddy. “I just want it to be over,” John said. Later, after Morgan got truck No. 2 running, he continued trying to talk John out of his suicide mission by showing him the note that had been left with him by whoever had saved him following Season 5’s finale. Still no dice. John was a dead man talking.

fear-the-walking-dead-recap-season-6-episode-8-john-dorie-dies-garret-dillahunt-leaving‘OH MY GOD, YOU KILLED CAMERON’ | By the hardest, the trio managed to get past the walkers. (Particularly gnarly was the zombie that, for a while, got stuck beneath a spinning tire. Nightmare fuel, that!) But the truck was worse for wear after Dakota crashed it to shake off a couple of especially clingy walkers. Before Morgan set off to look for parts (I presume?), he repeated his, “Dude, you can’t kill yourself” argument some more and gave John a photo of him with his dad that he’d found in the truck they’d been going to fix up themselves once upon a time. When even that significant prop didn’t dissuade John from his plans, Morgan walkie’d Virginia and gave her the location of his friend’s cabin to hold a meeting. Now, Morgan said, John couldn’t go back there and kill himself. (Although technically, Morgan, couldn’t John just have done the deed right then and there?)

While Morgan was off somewhere, Dakota was grabbed by a walker that wasn’t quite dead, and stabbed it with — aha! The broken knife that had been used to kill Cameron. Yes, she’d done it, she admitted to John. Cameron had discovered how she was getting in and out of Lawton and blabbed to Ginny. So the girl had killed him? All the cool kids are doing it, she replied (basically). “Morgan said I need a reason to live — maybe that’s you,” John decided. “That’d have meaning.” Taking a hard pass, Dakota shot John in the chest and pushed him into the river below. Death, she remarked, “doesn’t always have to mean something.”

fear-the-walking-dead-recap-season-6-episode-8-john-dorie-dies-garret-dillahunt-leaving‘WHAT DID YOU DO?!?’ | After John floated to the bottom of the river in especially artistic fashion, he found — what are the odds? — the photo of him and his dad, which in turn gave him back the will to live. So he swam back up to the surface, pulled a Leonardo DiCaprio (with no Kate Winslet to take up all the room on his floaty) and went bobbing down the river — to safety, I presumed. Having heard the shot, Morgan demanded to know what Dakota had done. She not only told him, she inadvertently revealed that she had killed Cameron, too, since she was still holding the telltale knife. But regardless, he was going to take her to his new paradise, she insisted, because she was the reason he was alive. Come again?

All this time, I’d thought Sherry had patched up Morgan at the Gulch after Virginia had shot him. But it had been Dakota. She’d followed her sister there, eager to see her go down. Now, she screamed at Morgan, “You are breathing because you are the only person left that can end her!” Heavy. Meanwhile, Ginny arrived at the cabin with June and some Rangers. Mid-hissy fit over Morgan being a no-show, the villainess was walkie’d by her nemesis and told to keep an eye out for John floating downriver. Help him, then they’d talk. Following that call, Morgan rang Dwight at the new compound and told him to get everybody ready; he might be bringing the war with the Rangers to their doorstep. Oh, and bring in Sherry, Morgan added. They were gonna need the help. Finally, June spotted John on shore… face down. When at last he looked up at her… aw, crap. He had turned! He reached for her, as walkers are wont to do, and for a last moment, she held her husband’s hand before being forced to stab him in the head.

Still in shock that the show killed poor, sweet John? Join the club. And while you’re at it, hit the comments with your reaction to this brutal twist after grading the midseason premiere in the poll below.

BBC row: David Attenborough admitted regret over Jeremy Clarkson sacking to Emily Maitlis https://briefnews.eu/bbc-row-david-attenborough-admitted-regret-over-jeremy-clarkson-sacking-to-emily-maitlis/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-row-david-attenborough-admitted-regret-over-jeremy-clarkson-sacking-to-emily-maitlis/#respond Sun, 11 Apr 2021 22:14:43 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/bbc-row-david-attenborough-admitted-regret-over-jeremy-clarkson-sacking-to-emily-maitlis/

The BBC parted ways with Clarkson in 2015, announcing that the former Top Gear presenter was responsible for an “unprovoked physical and verbal attack” that left a colleague bleeding and seeking hospital treatment. The broadcaster’s then director general, Lord Tony Hall, expressed “great regret” at having to let Clarkson go. And legendary natural historian Sir David Attenborough agrees.

Writing in her memoir, Airhead, BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis recalled a conversation with the 94-year-old.

She asked: “Was the BBC wrong to sack Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson?”

To which, he replied: “Well, yes.

“I regret letting Clarkson go because it’s very good to have a voice that’s anti-establishment.”

Justifying Clarkson’s dismissal, Lord Hall said the BBC was a “broad church” that required “distinctive and different voices but they cannot come at any price”.

Since leaving the BBC six years ago, Clarkson has gone on to reinvent himself as the host of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour.

His Top Gear colleagues, Richard Hammond and James May, followed him out in a move May said was an easy decision to make.

The BBC show they left, meanwhile, is almost unrecognisable.

The Newsnight firebrand writes: “He insists for a programme maker, it was the most fantastic job you can imagine.

“He said: ‘When I joined there was this absurd mystique that somehow there’s magic about making programmes and only the BBC knew how, as if we gave it to the nation.’

“He laughs at the pomposity.

“Well, I say back, perhaps that isn’t completely over. Look at Bake Off, that was gifted to the nation.

“Was the BBC right not to renew their deal?

“‘Oh! Absolutely right.

“’Say if you want another million go ahead, we’ve got plenty more ideas where that came from.’”

The Great British Bake Off moved to Channel 4 from the BBC in 2016.

It was considered controversial at the time and was agreed for a deal reportedly worth £75million over three years.

Paul Hollywood was the only member of Bake Off’s original line-up to move to Channel 4 and was allegedly paid £1.2million for the three-year deal.

He was joined by Prue Leith, a British-South African restaurateur, chef and food critic.

Emily Maitlis’ ‘Airhead: The Imperfect Art of Making News’ was published by Penguin in 2019. It is available here.

SNL Cold Open: Minnesota News Crew Debates Derek Chauvin Trial (Video) https://briefnews.eu/snl-cold-open-minnesota-news-crew-debates-derek-chauvin-trial-video/ https://briefnews.eu/snl-cold-open-minnesota-news-crew-debates-derek-chauvin-trial-video/#respond Sun, 11 Apr 2021 05:16:45 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/snl-cold-open-minnesota-news-crew-debates-derek-chauvin-trial-video/

Saturday Night Live weighed in on the Derek Chauvin trial this weekend by way of a fictitious morning news program out of Minnesota.

In the cold open, a four-person anchor team — Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat — discussed what had transpired so far in the trial of the former Minneapolis cop charged in the death of George Floyd. While they were all in agreement that “the video footage alone should tell you everything you need to know about what happened,” the white anchors had far more confidence in the American justice system than their Black counterparts.

“The defense trying to make a case that George Floyd’s drug use was somehow responsible is just deplorable,” Nwodim said. Added Thompson, “It was a clear act of desperation to create doubt where there is none.”

“Exactly,” McKinnon responded. “And there’s no way the jury’s going to fall for that.” But Nwodim and Thompson’s characters weren’t convinced.

“Let’s just say we’ve seen this movie before,” Nwodim explained.

The anchors eventually took a step back from their tense discussion to reflect on the “obvious stuff,” including a “glaring discrepancy” in the way Black people are treated by police and the need for “concrete solutions.” When Nwodim’s character suggested reparations as a potential fix, Moffat’s alter ego cut her off in disagreement.

The news personalities eventually moved on to other headlines, including the death of Prince Philip. When McKinnon’s character mentioned that the world lost “royalty” Friday, Nwodim and Thompson chimed in to acknowledge the passing of “Party Up” rapper DMX.

“I was talking about the prince,” McKinnon said.

“Girl, Prince been dead,” Nwodim responded.
