Cash Trapped viewers in meltdown as contestant makes awkward blunder: ‘I’m gobsmacked’

Bradley Walsh, 59, was on hand to help four Cash Trapped contestants get their hands on a big money prize as the ITV quiz show continued this evening (December 20). Comfort was one such player who was hoping to walk away as a winner. However, she left those watching at home in hysterics during the latest instalment as she had to question whether planes were in use during the 1960s.

The question put to Comfort was: “In 1963, Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to do what?”

The possible answers on offer were: “Travel in Space, Climb Mount Everest, Fly solo around the world, Win a Nobel Prize, Compete at the Olympics or Win an Oscar.”

In an attempt to narrow down her choices, the Cash Trapped contestant said: “I’m trying to work out if there were planes in 1963.”

As her fellow players let out a laugh, she commented: “It wasn’t that long ago, was it?” as Bradley looked on stumped.

After locking down flying solo as her answer, she became Cash Trapped as the correct one was travelling in space.

Taking to social media, one viewer wrote on Twitter: “I’m gobsmacked! Comfort is not sure if there were planes in 1963. #CashTrapped.”

Shocked at Comfort’s response, another posted: “A contestant has actually just said ‘I’m wondering if there were planes in 1963!'”

Whilst a third commented: “Wtf! I’m trying to think if there were planes in 1963 #cashtrapped I am amazed. [sic].”

“Not sure if there were planes in 1963? I guess the World Wars were in the 70’s or 80’s,” a fourth remarked.

Another wrote: “I’m looking forward to #CashTrapped ‘s return,” after host Bradley commented another series was on the cards.

The official Twitter account for the show also revealed some interesting statistics about viewing figures for the past few weeks.

“Thank you ALL for tuning in to this series of #CashTrapped and an even BIGGER thank you for making us the third most successful daytime format of the last seven years!” the tweet read.

“Plus, Season 3’s ratings were up on average share by an incredible 33%. It’s been our BIGGEST series yet!”

For fans of quiz show The Chase, also fronted by Bradley, it will return for a series of celebrity specials in the lead up to Christmas.

Tomorrow night, a festive edition of the hit daytime programme will see Gogglebox star Rev Kate Bottley and This Morning’s Dr Ranj Singh play alongside two other stars.

Queen of the jungle Georgia ’Toff’ Toffolo will join comedian Ed Byrne to complete the line-up as they attempt to win money for their chosen charities.

However, will they be able to take down the mighty force of the Chasers?

Cash Trapped is now available to stream on ITVHub.
