Captain Tom Moore, who raised a record-breaking amount of money for charity during the coronavirus crisis, said he was looking forward to being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. The World War Two veteran raised the world record sum by painstakingly completing 100 laps of his garden with the aid of a walking frame, becoming a symbol of British endurance in the face of the adversity of the coronavirus crisis. ITV Good Morning Britain’s (GMB) Piers Morgan asked: “If you’re able to go and be knighted by the Queen, what would you say to Her Majesty as you’re standing there and she’s about to knight you?”
Speaking on ITV’s GMB, Captain Tom said: “I think that a discussion between me and the Queen will have to be kept secret.
“I don’t believe you’re meant to say what the Queen says.
“But I shall say, ‘thank you very much!'”
Piers added: “She will be the one thanking you, Tom.

“You’ve been such a joy amid all the despair. I hope we stay in touch.”
Tom added: “After the storm, there will be a golden sky and I think you’ve got to look forwards to the fact that things will get better and we’ll have a lovely, golden sky and we’ll hear the larks singing again beautifully.”
The hero went on to tell BBC Breakfast he has one fear for the moment.
He said: “I hope she’s not very heavy-handed with the sword as by then I might be rather a poor old weak soul.”
He said on Tuesday: “Colonel Tom’s fantastic fundraising broke records, inspired the whole country and provided us all with a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus.
“On behalf of everyone who has been moved by his incredible story, I want to say a huge ‘thank you.’ He’s a true national treasure.”
The honour is the latest bestowed on Moore. For his 100th birthday last month, Queen Elizabeth agreed that he should be made an honorary colonel and he was also made an honorary member of the England cricket team.
He holds the Guinness World Record for the most money raised by an individual through a walk.
