Canada's Steve Nash highlights 2018 Hall of Fame eligibles

Canada’s Steve Nash leads the 2018 list of eligible nominees for the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The two-time NBA MVP could become just the second Canadian-born player in the Hall, joining Vancouver-born Bob Houbreg, who was inducted in 1987.

Nash, 43, is an eight-time all-star who won back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 while with the Phoenix Suns. He also played for the Dallas Mavericks and L.A. Lakers over his 18-year career, and represented Canada at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Nash is ranked third in career assists with 10,335 behind John Stockton (15,806) and Jason Kidd (12,091) — who is also up for nomination.

Along with Nash and Kidd, other notable first-time nominees are Ray Allen, Chauncey Billups, Grant Hill and Richard Hamilton.

The finalists will be announced during the NBA’s all-star weekend Feb. 16-18.
