Robert plays the role of Captain Daly on the spaceship USS Callister in the Star Trek-inspired simulated world.
The crew are made up of his real-life co-workers, played by the likes of Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson and Michaela Coel, who are subjected to whatever cruel whims Daly has.
The Space Fleet team are biological copies of themselves and are kept as prisoners in the game.
In the end, the group manage to evade their captor, who is last seen trapped in empty space and unable to re-enter the real world.
Series creator and co-writer of the episode, Charlie Brooker has divulged what would eventually happen to Robert.
“He’s going to starve to death,” Charlie said in an interview with Digital Spy, “Because he put ‘Do Not Disturb’ on his door.”
While Robert met a grisly end, the crew managed to make it into the original game and onto new adventures.
Charlie, 46, made further reference to Star Trek and it’s director, J.J. Abrams, when discussing their fate.
“They’re in what we call ‘J.J. Land’ at the end. They go through the wormhole and end up in J.J. Abrams lens-flare land.”
Black Mirror season 4 is now available to stream on Netflix.
