Gale force winds are heading for Britain warned BBC Breakfast meteorologist Carol Kirkwood during her weather report today.
She stated: “The wind is going to strengthen and we’re going to see some heavy rain come our way, some of us will have gales or even severe gales.
“As we head through the evening and overnight the next area of low pressure is going to come our way. The rain will be heavy and the wind is going to continue to strengthen.”
Wednesday will start of pleasant with much of the country expected to be dry and bright for the vast majority of the day.
The fine conditions are down to a ridge of high pressure situated to the north east of the UK which develops these sunny spells.
However, as the day progresses there could be the odd shower in the west and some rain will push towards Northern Ireland and the far west of Scotland in the afternoon.
Temperatures in the low 20s in places such as Hull, Norwich, London, Birmingham and Cardiff.
Meanwhile, further north, figures will struggle to reach 20 degrees Celsius, with Aberdeen expected to be settle at 16 degrees Celsius.
But towards the end of the day there will be a drastic shift in weather, with wet and windy conditions arriving by the evening, particularly across northern areas.
A heavy burst of rain and strengthening winds, some of them gale force, are going to batter the north west of the UK.
The gale force wind in Glasgow could be as strong as 60 miles per hour and in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Belfast it tops 50 miles per hour.
Travel distributions are likely due to rampant winds on Thursday morning and commuters have been advised to check transportation below travelling.
The Met Office has also issued a yellow warning as an Atlantic storm sweeps it’s way across the country.
Fortunately, the weather is expected to improve tomorrow once the rain across the north eases.
The winds will also calm to leave behind lots of sunshine and the temperatures will return to reasonable figures.
Nevertheless, bookmaker Coral has slashed its odds on this summer being the hottest on record.
It is now just 4/6 for this month to reach more than 30 degrees Celsius and 4/1 for the hottest ever June day, which is currently 35.6 degrees Celsius.
Coral spokesman John Hill said: “We’ve seen a huge gamble on this summer being the hottest ever in the UK.
“Punters are convinced that we are in for a treat with temperatures reaching record breaking heights.”
