BBC weather forecast: Carol Kirkwood issues staggering ICE warning – find out where HERE

Carol Kirkwood urged BBC Breakfast viewers to be careful as some surfaces will be icy, she said: “There will be the risk of ice on untreated surfaces.

“And then we’ve got this system coming in from the south west, with some heavier outbreaks of rain or showers.”

In Scotland heavy snowfall caused disruptions for travellers yesterday, but today ice is the biggest problem for most.

The last of the snow is still on higher parts of the highland in Scotland, besides that it is relatively clear.

Most places in the UK will feel a bitter chill this morning as some frost develops, particularly in rural areas.

With this brings the risk of icy stretches in some areas, meanwhile, the temperature is likely to remain relatively low.

The warmest weather this morning will be in the south in places such as St Helier, London, Plymouth and Birmingham.

Coldest conditions are in the north of the UK, specifically Newcastle, Lerwich, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

An area of low pressure travelling from the Channel could cause extensive rain across Wales and south east England.

There will be a few showers across the north western areas, with some of those wintry over high ground.

Later in the day rain will arrive in south west England, but most of Britain will be dry as the cloud clears.

On Thursday, a band of rain and hill snow will work its way across Wales and England, this could turn wintry.

Elsewhere, wintry showers across as the north west of the UK, as well as sunny spells in between.

By Friday the weather should have cleared up, with most seeing some sunshine.

However, an area of low pressure will approach south west, as a result the cloud will thicken and there will be some outbreaks of rain.

This weekend snow is expected in the north, but for most it will be mild with some sunny spells.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
