The trailer is finally here. The title has been revealed as Endgame and so far we have not been shown any of the characters who were seen turning to dust in The Snap. Major reports and leaks in the last few months had suggested that Avengers 4, now officially known as Endgame, would pick up five years after the shocking events of Infinity War. A major clue was the reporetd casting of an older teenage actress, believed to play Scott Lang’s daughter. Many suggested Land, aka Ant-Man, would emerge from the Quantum Realm a few years after entering to find a world changed.
The very end of the trailer shows Captain America and Black Widow at the Avengers compound.
Lang appears on a video screen. He was last seen trapped in the Quantum Realm as The Snap wiped out Hank and Hope.
In a strangely cheerful mood, he waves at the camera and says; “Hi, is anyone home? This is Scott Lang. we met a few years ago at the airport, in Germany? I got really big. Ant-Man. I know you know that… That’s me. Can you buzz me in?”
Captain America asks: “Is this an old message?” Black Widow replies: “That’s the front door.”
This almost certainly completely confirms time has passed since the end of Infinity War.
Lang references “a few years ago.” This refers to the events of Civil War which the official Marvel timeline states happened in 2016. Confusingly Infinity War is supposed to take place a year later in 2017.
This means more than a year has passed since the end of Avengers 3, otherwise he would have said “last year.”
What is most strange is his usual upbeat, jokey demeanour. If he knew what had happened while he was in the Quantum Realm, surely he woudl be a lot more serious and worried?
Whether or not the full five years reported have passed or just one or two remains unclear.
The time-line is from the official MCU book Marvel: The First Ten Years. However, direct lines from Infinity War film also seem to confirm that it does take places TWO years after Civil War not one.
It is almost as confusing as trying to figure out the eternal problem about the time jump between The Avengers and Spider-Man Homecoming.Marvel needs to do some explaining fast…
